Threshing actions
When we observe an image of a family of farmers threshing corn on a porch, we may think that they are talking about family matters or community affairs. They might also talk about neighbours, relatives or politics, or perhaps take advantage of these moments to pay attention to their children’s behaviour. Thus, we may say they are threshing their feelings, personal stories, kindness or frustrations about the future.
This scene is a perfect image of humanity and nature in contact. Their mistreated hands from the hard work are like strange figures touching the velvety leaves of the corn. Their fingers slip through them to reveal the golden-yellow kernels, which emerge from the green mantle that covers them. This everyday work is patient and persistent, and the following morning it will begin again, as it always has.
When travellers return home, they go about threshing their memories while passing through familiar places. These memories are everywhere and full of vestiges from childhood and youth. Threshing memories is like revealing what is hidden at each stage of our journey.
Grandparents thresh their memories to tell their grandchildren, newly arrived in the world, teaching them that life is not as they imagine. Over time, life will reveal its ways and the difficulties that all of us must face.
Once a secret is threshed, it may arouse resentment, sever friendships, or make new enemies. Furthermore, it can leave both victims and culprits laid bare before the unexpected.
News is often shaped by those in senior positions to publish only what is useful to them. They manipulate facts as if they were threshing people’s thoughts. Newspapers thresh the news, separating “the chaff from the wheat” of information and publishing what is important for specific groups. In fact, these people do not remove lies to give the truth a chance; instead, they use lies deliberately to hide it. So, to understand reality, we must thresh information ourselves, separating lies to reveal the truth as it has always been.
Chosen words play an important role in forming and transforming societies. This choice often leads people into intense debates, whether they disagree or try to create a false sense of hope. Threshing things may also lead to a sea of tears when our frustration is greater than our curiosity.
In conclusion, “thresh” is a verb that goes beyond dividing things; it is just important for marking positions in life. Consequently, if we remove the lies and arguments without real evidence, the world can breathe more easily, revealing the golden-yellow of the corn.
