AI: Are we leaning more with it?
Nowadays, AI has become a special tool for working in many ways. It has become a useful tool for saving time and providing an opportunity to solve both complex and simple questions, without human interference or social interaction. The first question is about this intelligence or expertise. Will we know who controls or manipulates this digital intelligence or this huge archive of data?
I have been wondering if there is intelligence behind this digital component. For example, if we give a hammer to professionals, they will know how to use it. If we give a sophisticated hammer, it is possible that they will use it to explore its potential, whether from themselves or from the hammer itself. A sophisticated tool can surprise us and open up many possibilities. In the end, we are experiencing a new and wonderful technological world that science fiction has pushed us towards.
However, a sophisticated tool can also fall into the hands of unscrupulous professionals. How can we recognise the true information if AI explores a universe without law and order, where everyone can post what they want? This new world has been transforming reality into unreality and, at the same time, creating opportunities to deceive people who believe anything that is posted. Therefore, we do not know whether some posts are true, unreal, or created with bad intentions. Would we rely on a tool that “exudes truth” and rewrites reality? Is there a human link working behind it? At the same time, can we know which world we are interacting with, whether it is a virtual world or the real world? Must we turn off our critical thinking and allow others to do our jobs and think for us because of our mental laziness, avoiding seeing the unvarnished truth?
Our battle is to use this intelligence to make our lives easier and improve them, and not to eliminate our social interaction.
We are asking AI for everything, and we are forgetting to ask our neighbours what we can do for them or what they can do for us.
It is important to control Big Tech because laws and social interaction are always one step behind technological evolution. Instead of making our lives easier, as it was imagined, the digital world has turned our lives into a financial market through monetisation, encouraging people to do incredible things to survive in it. Many people all over the world have abandoned their formal jobs to dedicate their time to saying and doing absurd things. This behaviour has made our world unpredictable.
AI is no longer simply to make our lives easier, and it has rephrased a well-known saying from the past: how to earn money without effort.
Before the digital world, some people dedicated their time to producing short films. They had a saying: “A camera in the hands and an idea in the head”. Nowadays, many have a mobile phone in their hands and nothing good to broadcast, only absurd attempts to earn money without effort. No one seems to care if evil spreads.
AI and mental health do not go together. Followers (and there are many!) enjoy watching their influencers’ lives as if living other people’s lives were reality, and they abandon their own lives in exchange for fantasies.
In summary, where is the intelligence of AI? And our intelligence, what have we done with our intelligence?
