Ridiculous things
Wasting time on irrelevant issues is one of the silliest things in life, not only in terms of what we think about others, but also in how we deal with them. Let’s imagine two people arguing over who has the right to park their cars in the only available space in a car park. If we think clearly, that small piece of land doesn’t belong to anyone. Ironically, people argue over a space not for themselves, but for cars, with their glass eyes waiting patiently for the discussion to end.
In the same way, it is foolish to argue over football games with people who feel encouraged to fight in the streets in defence of twenty-two football players, referees, and a colossal business, as if they were fighting for freedom and rights. In this peculiar situation, people are arguing over an event that involves a lot of money – money that will never end up in their pockets.
Personal routines, ways of dressing, the cars people drive, whether they have a family or not, how people decorate their homes or relax: to whom do these things really matter? These situations should be important only to the people involved, not to neighbours who watch and try to control their routines.
Arguing over silly things is a typical urban condition. Of course, some animals can be troublesome, especially pets; it seems as though our relationship with them has brought more problems than solutions.
Some people wish to fix the world as if they were capable of changing humanity. In fact, if everyone minded their own business, there would be fewer conflicts in the world.
Ironically, arguing just to irritate others over events they have caused is unnecessary, because we are wasting our time and gaining nothing from it. Life is like a stage of a theatre, where actors play their roles while an audience watches their performances.
We cannot argue with people who refuse to be convinced, and it’s better they remain alone without anyone agreeing with them. The world keeps spinning, and we don’t need to be shaken by it; dealing with ignorant people is a nightmare. What’s more, ignorant people don’t see themselves as such, and it’s foolish to try to convince them.
Agreeing with ignorant people is both the best and the worst thing we can do. Agreeing may simply mean that we no longer care about their opinion, while their attempt to impose it on others is a ridiculous display. Disagreeing, on the other hand, may create a much bigger problem.
In the end, we waste our time trying to fix life’s absurdities. While we try to fix them, we may become more ridiculous than those who made the mistakes in the first place.
